Aegeus

Aegeus (or Aegeas) was the son of King Pandion and was himself an early king of Athens. He was possibly the father of Theseus (although Theseus’ mother, Aithra, also slept with Poseidon that same night). He married Medea, who had fled from Corinth and the wrath of Jason, and together they had a son named Medus. Aegeus jumped into the sea (known thereafter as the Aegean Sea) and drowned, mistakenly believing that his son Theseus had been slain by the Minotaur.
