Iphigenia
Iphigenia (or Iphigeneia) was a daughter of King Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, and sister to Orestes, Electra and Chrysothemis. When Agamemnon's ships were becalmed at Aulis en route to the Trojan War (after Agamemnon had offended the goddess Artemis), an oracle revealed that the winds would only return if he sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia. Agamemnon deceived Clytemnestra into sending Iphigenia, and she was duly sacrificed. However, another version claims that Iphigenia was switched at the last moment and taken by Artemis to Tauris to live as her priestess there and to prepare others for sacrifice, and that this is where her brother Orestes later discovered her and helped her to escape.
