Icaria

Icaria was an island in the Aegean Sea, west of Samos. Icaria was mostly known for being the island named after Icarius, son of Daedalus.

Daedalus was the inventor for Minos, king of Crete. When Theseus escaped from the Labyrinth and killed the monster the Minotaur, Minos imprisoned Daedalus in the Labyrinth, knowing that Daedaelus was involved in some way in helping Theseus escape. Daedaelus created two sets of wings made out of wax, and he and his son Icarius flew out. Icarius ignored his father's warning and flew too high. The wax melted and Icarius plunged to his death in the sea. The sea was named after him as the Icarian Sea.

Heracles found Icarius' body washed ashore off a certain island, and the hero named the island after Icarius, as Icaria.
