Argolis

Argolis was the northeast region of the Peloponnesus. This region was a rich source of myths, with several powerful kingdoms within the region. Historically, Mycenae was the most powerful kingdom during the middle and late Bronze Age, and Argos was the oldest city in the region. The Mycenaean empire extended as far as Cyprus.

Argolis was ruled by several great families: the descendants of Inachus (Inachids), which included the Perseids (descendants of Perseus) in Tiryns and Mycenae; Proëtus and his descendants (Proetids), who shared power with the Aeolids in Argos; and the Pelopids (descendants of Pelops).
